Three Star Dairy is located in McCook Nebraska. This area of southwest Nebraska was once known as the great desert. Since the advent of center pivot irrigation, the area has greatly changed. Southwest Nebraska has the driest and warmest climate in the state, lending itself to an ideal dairy environment for this geographical region. Climate along with a very attractive negative cash corn basis (ranging from -.10 to-.24) makes the constant and abundant feed situation very appealing. The alfalfa comes from all directions with the average haul under70 miles. Proteins all come from the area with numerous soy and alcohol processing plants within hours. Three Star Dairy’s first phase was completed in April of 1998 starting with only a double twelve parlor, milking @ 600. Since the original construction, additions, expansions and equipment upgrades have been continuous.

The facility will currently milk 1,650 cows three times per day. The facility infrastructure is complete to milk two thousand cows, two times per day. This includes parlor equipment and milk cooling capacity, underground flush line loop and storage, lagoon and manure separating system, entire facility drainage layout, and dirt work for the final freestall expansion.
